The Varsity Football squad survived an upset bid by the visiting Scott Bulldogs last night winning in overtime, 17-14. Kicker Jake Baumgartner redeemed himself connecting on a 20-yard field goal in the first overtime to secure the win. Stymied all night by the Bulldog defense, the Spartans took a commanding 14-0 lead in the 4th quarter only to see the Bulldogs rally scoring on an exciting 2-point conversion with 17 seconds left in the game to tie it at 14. The Spartans had a chance to win in regulation but Baumgartner’s kick sailed wide left and it was off to overtime. The Spartans defense stiffened on the Bulldogs’ first overtime possession before the game winning kick gave the Spartans the win. Legend Tucker led the way on the ground rushing for over 100 yards while Caleb Coyne rushed for a touchdown as well. They now move to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in the City League. Their next contest comes on Thursday, October 12th at Bowsher. The game will begin at 7:00 PM.
