Going up against their arch rival, the Spartans found themselves in a hole early but climbed out of it only to see a late 1st half run put them behind again. Down, 21-15 at halftime, the Spartans turned up the defensive pressure and forced the Panthers into some uncharacteristic mistakes to hang on for dear life in the end to defeat the Panthers, 31-30. In doing so, the Spartans captured the first district championship for the boys program in school history.
In a slow and deliberate game, the Spartans found a way in the end when no points were scored after a Devin Williams layup with 2:13 to go in the game. The Spartans hurt themselves at the free throw line going 0-7 down the stretch to allow the Panthers to stay in the game. However, Williams notched two key steals with under 5 seconds to go to secure the win.
Dashad Floyd led the way with 9 points as the Spartans secured their 22nd win of the season. They next move on to face the winner of Lima Senior High School Wednesday night at Savage Arena at 7:00 in the regional semi-final.
