Girls Varsity Basketball · Lady Spartans fall in City League Final

The Lady Spartans of Start set out with a particular goal in mind at the beginning of the year and that was to win a City League title. With that in mind, the Lady Spartans did all they could but came up short in the end falling to league nemesis Rogers, 37-36. Keyaira Burroughs’ 3-point attempt at the end of regulation fell short setting off another celebration by the Lady Rams.

After a sluggish start, the Lady Spartans went on a run in the late first quarter to take a 15-10 lead at the end of the quarter. However, a dry spell of almost 5 minutes in the 2nd quarter held the Lady Spartans back from creating anymore distance.

Despite holding a late 35-31 lead, the Lady Spartans fell cold again only scoring 2 points over the last 3 minutes of the game. Victoria Alexander and Alasia Easley both chipped in with 11 points to lead the way.

The Lady Spartans finish the regular season at 13-9 overall. They will next play in the sectional final at Genoa High School on Saturday, February 22nd at 2:45 PM. Their opponent will be Lima Senior.
