The boys team defeated Waite last night in league play, 7-0.
After a tumultuous and uncertain offseason, the Lady Spartan Soccer squad finally opened the season with a decisive 11-1 victory at Waite High School on Wednesday evening. The Lady Spartans jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the first half and never looked back. The team returned all but one starter, City League Player of the Year Paula Flores, from last year. Senior Captain Carleigh Collier tore her ACL in the pre-season and will be greatly missed. The team has rallied around that adversity and are utilizing that momentum to seek out the elusive City League title this season. Scoring in the victory over Waite was led by Sophomore Forward Emma Skibinski, who had a breakout game with 5 goals. Senior Forward Makia Williams flashed signs of brilliance throughout the game and added four goals of her own. Senior Midfielder Sam Sadowski contributed one goal, as did Sophomore Midfielder Holly Walker. The coaching staff is excited about the growth exhibited by the team, especially by the younger players from last year. The Lady Spartans travel to Bowsher on Monday.
